Globus Metal Powders

GMP® 939™

Nickel-Based Superalloy Powder for Extreme Creep and Stress Rupture Performance

GMP® 939™ from Globus Metal Powders is a nickel-chromium-cobalt superalloy powder designed for maximum high-temperature creep resistance, stress rupture strength, and fatigue performance. Produced via argon inert gas atomisation, GMP 939™ features ultra-low oxygen levels, tightly controlled minor elements, and optimised spherical particle morphology, making it ideal for PM-HIP, additive manufacturing (AM), metal injection moulding (MIM), and thermal spray applications.

This powder is engineered for critical aerospace, defence, and energy components that operate under extreme temperatures and prolonged stress, such as turbine blades, vanes, and industrial gas turbine components. Its composition ensures predictable densification, minimal porosity, and uniform microstructure, delivering exceptional long-term mechanical stability.

Differentiation

When considered across the full Globus portfolio:

  • Versus 718: While 718 balances high-temperature strength and fatigue resistance for broad applications, 939 is specifically optimised for maximum creep and stress rupture performance at ultra-high temperatures.
  • Versus 625: 625 focuses on corrosion and chemical resistance, whereas 939 prioritises mechanical performance under prolonged high-temperature loading.
  • Versus Alloy X: Alloy X emphasises oxidation resistance and thermal stability, whereas 939 is chosen for exceptional creep strength and long-term durability.
  • Versus Invar 36: Invar 36 is engineered for low thermal expansion, making it suitable for precision applications, while 939 is built for structural integrity under extreme thermal stress.
  • Versus steels like 316L, F53, P91, EUROFER97: 939 offers superior high-temperature performance, creep resistance, and fatigue life, surpassing the capabilities of stainless steels and ferritic/martensitic steels in extreme thermal environments.

GMP® ultra-low oxygen powders with tightly controlled minor elements minimise oxide films, internal voids, and microstructural inconsistencies, which is critical for high-performance PM-HIP components and additive manufacturing builds. The spherical particle morphology and optimised PSD ensure consistent flow, uniform packing, and defect-free layer deposition.

Applications

  • Aerospace: turbine blades, vanes, and hot-section components requiring long-term high-temperature strength.
  • Power Generation: industrial gas turbine hot-section hardware and components subject to sustained stress.
  • Defence: high-performance components exposed to extreme thermal cycles.
  • Additive Manufacturing (LPBF/SLM/DMLS): complex high-temperature geometries requiring defect-free builds.
  • PM-HIP & MIM: near-net-shape, high-strength, stress-rupture-resistant components.
  • Thermal Spray: protective coatings for extreme temperature and high-stress environments.

Key Advantages

  • Exceptional high-temperature creep and stress rupture performance for mission-critical applications.
  • Ultra-low oxygen and tightly controlled minor elements for defect-free densification.
  • Spherical particle morphology and optimised PSD for predictable flow, packing, and layering.
  • Internal laboratory verification ensures chemistry, PSD, and density consistency.
  • Customisable powders tailored for PM-HIP, AM, MIM, and thermal spray applications.
